Open Office vs Cabins: How to Decide

Open plan fits about 60–110 sq ft per person and suits teams that collaborate; cabins need about 130–200 sq ft per person and suit confidential, focused or client-facing work. Most Indian offices work best as a hybrid — an open floor along the windows, a few glass-fronted cabins, and meeting rooms and phone booths for privacy.

Interior Design Cost in Mumbai (2026)

Home interiors in Mumbai typically cost about ₹1,000–1,400 per sq ft of carpet area for basic work, ₹1,400–2,400 for mid-range and ₹2,400–4,000+ for premium in 2026 — roughly 15–30 per cent above tier-2 cities for the same specification. Because Mumbai flats are smaller, a mid-range 2BHK of about 700 sq ft carpet usually lands at ₹10–17 lakh.

Edge Banding Explained: Types and Thickness

Edge banding is the strip that seals the cut edges of plywood, MDF and HDHMR furniture; it decides how long a wardrobe or kitchen survives humidity and knocks. Use 2 mm PVC or ABS on every visible and high-wear edge, 0.8 mm on hidden edges, and a tape about 4 mm wider than the board, applied by machine with pre-milling and a radius finish.

Ceiling Height Standards in India (NBC)

The National Building Code of India 2016 sets 2.75 m as the minimum height of a habitable room, 2.4 m where the room is air-conditioned or under a beam, and 2.2 m for bathrooms, WCs and stores. Most Indian flats are built at 3.0–3.15 m floor to floor, which leaves a thin band for false ceilings, beams and ducts.

Stepwells of Gujarat: Rani ki Vav, Adalaj and Their Design Genius

Gujarat's stepwells — the 11th-century Rani ki Vav at Patan and the 1499 stepwell at Adalaj near Ahmedabad — are long stepped trenches that lead people down, level by level, to groundwater, with shaded pavilions that stay several degrees cooler than the street. Their real genius is a single section that solves water storage, access, shade, cooling and gathering at once, and every part of it still has a use in modern homes.

Living Room Partition Ideas: Jaali, Glass and Fluted

The right living room partition depends on what it must do: a jaali about 30–40 per cent open filters view and keeps air moving; fluted or frosted glass passes light while blurring the view; clear glass divides sound and smell without dividing light. Most living–dining partitions in Indian flats are 900–1200 mm wide panels, full height or on a 900–1050 mm half wall, costing roughly ₹350–1,800 per sq ft installed depending on material (indicative October 2026).

Laxmi Vilas Palace Vadodara: Architecture Guide

Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara was built for Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III and completed in 1890, designed by Major Charles Mant and completed by Robert Fellowes Chisholm in the Indo-Saracenic style — Indian domes, chhatris, jharokhas and arches on a European-planned building. Its most useful lessons for homes are its shaded arcades, deep projections, tall ventilated rooms and the way it puts Indian craft at the centre of a modern building.

Bohemian Interior Design: Colour, Pattern and Plants

Bohemian interiors work when the freedom is planned: a warm, earthy base of about 60 per cent, one or two rich accent colours, patterns mixed at three different scales, natural materials such as cane, jute and cotton, and plants placed where the light can actually keep them alive. In India the style is unusually easy to source, because block prints, dhurries, cane and brass are made here.

Future of Design

3D Printing in Architecture and Furniture

3D printing builds objects layer by layer from a digital model: in construction, a robot extrudes concrete in layers of roughly 10–30 mm to form walls; in furniture and decor, printers lay down plastic, resin, clay or metal. In India it is real but early — printed buildings exist, including a post office in Bengaluru in 2023 — and today it pays off mostly for curved, repetitive or custom elements rather than ordinary brick-and-RCC homes.

Shop Vastu: Cash Counter and Entrance

Traditional shop Vastu places the cash counter in the south-west or west part of the shop with the owner facing north or east, and favours north, east and north-east entrances. In practice the counter must also see the door: on every facing there is a position that satisfies both, with a counter about 900–1050 mm high and 1200–1500 mm of clear space in front.

Reception Area Design Ideas for Offices

A good office reception is planned around five jobs — welcome, control, waiting, brand and routing — and sized at roughly 10–15 m² for a small office and 15–30 m² for most growing firms. The desk needs a 1050–1100 mm visitor ledge, a 720–750 mm work surface behind it and a lowered accessible section, with about 300 lux at the counter.

Profile Lights and Linear Lighting Ideas

A profile light is an LED strip built into an aluminium channel with a diffuser — surface, recessed, trimless, suspended or corner — and it reads as a clean line only when the profile depth, diffuser and strip are matched. Plan lines on a drawn ceiling plan, feed long runs from both ends, size drivers at about 1.25 times the load, and budget roughly ₹300–1,500 per running foot installed depending on type (indicative October 2026).
